KAROOBAIX will start with an individual time trail prologue on Friday 5 October 2018. Racers will set off at 30 seconds intervals and complete an 8km looped course in the shortest time possible.
The following day a mass-start 245km loop stage will take racers from Calvinia through the beautiful but harsh Tankwa Karoo and Hantam Karoo on Saturday 6 October 2018. Approximately 22km south of Calvinia the route drops down the Bloukrans Pass into the Tankwa Karoo, after which riders will come across a water stop at about 70km into the race. After this the route will turn north, and racers will gain about 500m of elevation as they climb up the 7km Gannaga Pass, about 110km into the stage. Continuing north, at the 146km mark they will arrive at the second refreshment stop in the tiny outpost of Middelpos. From there racers will follow the breathtaking Leliekrans Road, followed by the Rooiwal Road back to Calvinia. Racers can expect a total elevation gain of about 1700m.
