KAROOBAIX will be a race no longer. For too many speculated reasons to discuss here entries for KAROOBAIX 2018 were too low to make it a viable endeavour. As John ‘The Radavist’ Watson so eloquently referred to KAROOBAIX 2017 in a social media post recently, “Some rides are so painful they never leave your memory…”. Perhaps 245km through the inhospitable Tankwa Karoo is simply too far, too hard.

However, this does not mean KAROOBAIX has been cancelled. Some have asked me to make the route shorter, but to be honest I am personally interested in riding this kind of distance. Simply to see if I can do it. I am not an endurance athlete - far from it - but I want to know if I’m physically and mentally strong enough to do this. I'll still be taking on the 245km challenge, and I invite you to join me.

The premise stays the same, but it's not a race. There will be very basic backup, no medical support, and no winner. We will still have fantastic fresh and local food and drink along the way. Each rider will pay only for the cost of their adventure - accommodation, food, and basic support. Drop-bar gravel bikes are preferred, but you can ride whatever you like. If you would like to join me, please get in touch by sending me an email at stan@dayone.co.za as soon as possible. There are only 25 spots available.

IMPORTANT - while the dates and the 245km route will stay the same, our base will now be the wonderful little outpost of Middelpos, from where we will start and finish. Please have a look at the ROUTE.
